Te Mania Reserve Chardonnay 2016

Regular price $29.99 NZD

Te Mania’s premier white wine produced in seasons where fruit quality achieves an exceptional standard. In making this wine we have selected only the finest fruit from our best vineyard.

Tasting: A rich nose with marmalade, ripe grapefruit, cedary oak and biscuity characters. Full, rich, sweet palate with ripe, concentrated fruit backed by generous oak. Some savoury/biscuity characters with toasty vanilla and a touch of nuttiness. Powerful, complex and well-weighted with a round, creamy, lingering finish.

Wine Making:  Intensive viticulture, including Scott Henry trellising and hand leaf plucking, ensured maximum exposure of the grapes to the sun and encouraged optimum ripeness and flavour development. The grapes were gentle pressed to get the finest quality juice.  The juice was then fermented in a selection of oak barrels (25% new oak) where the wines lees where stirred once per month and aged for 11 months before blending, filtration and bottling.  Full malolactic fermentation has added to the complexity of the finished wine.

Diet: Suitable for a vegan diet.

Analysis: Alcohol 13.5%, Acidity 6.0 g/L

GOLD MEDAL - Sakura Wine Awards

Bright, light straw-yellow colour with light lemon-gold tints and a little depth, pale edged.  The nose is well-proportioned with concentrated and deeply packed aromas of white and yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits harmoniously melded with creamy and nutty lees and barrel-ferment layers, hints of spice and delicate nuances of butterscotch MLF.  Medium-full bodied, the palate has a tight and concentrated core with intense and penetrating flavours of citrus and stonefruits entwined with creamy barrel-ferment and toasty oak, and harmoniously melded lemon-curd and buttery MLF.  The rich fruit is balanced by brisk, racy acidity.  The wine flows with plenty of energy and drive along a fine-textured line with good acid tension to a long and sustained finish.  This is a rich, but taut and concentrated Chardonnay with intense citrus and stonefruit flavours melded with creamy and nutty oak and butterscotch MLF, cut by brisk acidity.
5 STARS - Raymond Chan
Complex and inviting, the attractive bouquet shows white nectarine,                   rockmelon, nougat, vanilla and hazelnut characters, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that is rounded and supple. The wine delivers delectable fruit    flavours with stylish  oak undertones, wonderfully supported by silky texture and creamy mouthfeel.
